ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITE AUTHORS.

So I think that I've have mentioned in the past that I love reading.

I love reading so much that in elementary I had the most AR points (points for reading books) in the entire school.
Not to brag about my fourth grade accolades or anything...

Let me first start off with saying that my favorite books are mystery books. I have read like every Nancy Drew book ever written. For real though

Anyways, I wanted to share with ya'll one of my favorite authors. Allison Brennan.

She is not one of the most popular but is a NY Times and USA Today best selling author.

I love Allison Brennan so much because her books are mainly thriller/romance. It's the best of both worlds. SO Good. I can literally start a book and not put it down until I am done because they are so good.

One of my favorite  AB books.

Please tell me some of your favorite authors. I need some awesome reads this summer!

JUST BECAUSE: I PRAYED I WOULDN'T HAVE TO GO UP STAIRS.

So I mentioned a few days ago that I was going to try my first Barre class.

I loved it.

Monday morning I got up and forced myself to go to the class.

I was really hungover tired and wanted to stay bra-less with no pants on for most of the day.. Who wouldn't enjoy that?

Well I marched my lazy butt to the class and before I knew it, I was really enjoying myself.
And I was sweating. A lot.

After that I was feeling pretty brave.

I drove to a near by park and completed a day of C25K... You know, that program that I have started like 30 times and have never finished.

Anyways, Yesterday I woke up feeling like I would die if I had to go up stairs. My legs were so sore that I decided to skip a day.

Unfortunately Barre is super expensive but G said that If I really wanted he would build me a barre so I can have one at the house. I may or may not have swooned a little.

A picture from Pure Barre.

What are your favorite workout activities?

MY FAVORITE TV SHOWS ON RIGHT NOW

So lately there have been some awesome shows on TV right now.

My DVR is  so crammed full of shows that I cannot wait to catch up on.

Now that Revenge, Criminal Minds, Modern Family, NCIS, and The Following are over, here is what I am watching now:

1. Game of Thrones. Okay, okay I know that I am a little behind everyone else but I am about to start the third season and am so excited.

2. True Blood. There has been one new episode that has aired and I haven't had the chance to watch it yet, so don't spoil it for me! I can't wait to see what "bad" Bill is up too!

3. Dexter. I know the final season begins this weekend but I am literally so anxious to start the new season. For those of you who do not watch Dexter, you should! I mean, who doesn't love a good serial killer?

4. The Killing. This show can come off a little slow, but it has a lot of twists and turns. The Killing is in its second season and I think has been renewed for a third.

What are y'all watching?

JUNE CARABOX

My June Carabox arrived the other day from Becca

This months theme is "carnival or fair." She did a great job of putting together an AWESOME box!

I loved everything that she sent me! G grabbed the Cracker Jacks and immediately ripped them open in delight.

We actually enjoyed the popcorn during our movie night last night.

She left me instructions on putting everything together in baskets and said to relax and pretend we were at the fair.

FIVE THINGS FRIDAY

Happy Friday all!

Erin from Sugar Magnolia gave me the idea for this post this most.

/one/ G and I started watching Game of Thrones a couple days ago and just finished season one last night. It's so good! I have read all but the last book and had really enjoyed reading them (except for the tiny print) so I was glad to find out that the show is almost verbatim to the book.

I found this on a GoT's fan site.

/two/  Last night my parents and grandmother came over for a home cooked dinner cooked by moi.

So of course there were several bottles of wine opened.

I cooked chicken and beef kabobs with zucchini, squash, portabella mushrooms, and red and yellow peppers. I also made some cous-cous, a caprese salad, and corn on the cob.  So yummy and healthy!

/three/ So have I mentioned that I was looking to try something totally different when it comes to excising.

This girl gets bored easily.

After hearing about how much the beautiful Beth and also my aunt LOVES Barre, I decided to give it a try.

Tomorrow i am going to my first class and my mama is going to do it with me!

/four/ I have finally gotten back to my normal self after Bonnaroo. I was such a grump-a-potamus the couple of days after I got back. G was not pleased to say the least.

/five/ And lastly I have lost 5lbs in the past two weeks! I may or may not have did a happy dance on the scale this morning. Oops.

AND THEN I GOT STOOD UP ON OUR FIRST DATE: PART TWO

If you have not read the first part of this story you can read it here.

One of our very first pictures together.
So after I got off of the phone with G and realized that I had been majorly stood up, I felt like an absolute idiot.

All these months of thinking that he was just joking around with me and it turns out I was right.

I vowed at that moment to never give him the time of day again. And for awhile, I kept that promise.

Of course he apologized several times after that night but I always blew him off. Yes he kept on asking when could we have another chance, but I blew that off too.

I had put myself out there for the first time and asked him out (sorta) and was shot down.

So a month went by and I went out and met some friends from work at a bar for some drinks and open band night. G was there.

Maybe it was the vodka cranberries I was drinking, or maybe it was seeing him play the drums but regardless the butterflies were back and we decided to try it again.

We went to dinner and a movie and after I was immediately smitten. Many more dates followed.

Almost half a decade later, we now have two dogs and a house together and are still head over heels for one another.

AND THEN I GOT STOOD UP ON OUR FIRST DATE. PART ONE

So this morning I thought and thought about what i should write about today and nothing seemed to stick out.

Hmm come on Jill, you are more creative than this.

I have had the idea of writing mine and G's love story on the back burner for awhile now but I didn't think it was the right time because it felt like everyone was posting those kind of posts.

So after going back and forth I decided to write it. I mean who doesn't love a good love story? Here goes friends...

It was the end of the summer of 2008 and I was a bright eyed nineteen year old.

I had gotten out of a high school long relationship the year previous and had thoroughly enjoyed my freshman year of college. Maybe a little too much.

I worked at the same steak house since I was 16. G started working there about half a year before this story started.

I never really thought about him much. He was five and a half years older than me and I was used to going downtown every night with my girlfriends.

Randomly one day he started giving me all of this attention and asking me things like "so when are we going to get to go out together?"

I would look up at work and his eyes would be on me.

Still I just thought he was joking. For months I just thought he was joking with me.

As the summer came to an end and his flirting grew stronger, I did something that I had never done before.

One day when he asked me again "when can I take you out"  I responded "how about tomorrow night?"
I watched as his eyes grow big as he processed what I had just said and we agreeded on the next night.

That night after work I used a coupon that I had been saving and got a spray tan. (because that's what all girls do, right?) Ironically, I had a hair appointment scheduled for the next day anyway so I was super excited to look my best.

Four o'clock came around as I had a hair full of foil and had just finished gushing to my hair stylist, I decided that I had better call and make sure that we were still on.
G picked up the phone after a couple of rings and sounded a little bit distracted.

I asked him about that night and he said that we were still on. I hung up the phone with butterflies.

A couple of minutes later my phone rings again and my stomach drops. It's him. Something must be wrong.

He said that he's been on the golf course drinking all day and that he needed to take a rain check because he didn't think it was a good idea to go on a date drunk...

Part two coming tomorrow!

I SAW A REAL LIFE BEETLE!

Hi friends!

So y'all have probably noticed that I have been gone for a few days at Bonnaroo.

I had the best time!

While I was away I had some fabulous girls guest post for me. Thank you again Sarah! You ladies are the best!

Top moments of Bonnaroo

/one/ Seeing Paul Mccartney. For being 71 years old he can sure rock. I can't believe I saw an actual Beetle preform live in my lifetime.

/two/ Unfortunately the bassist for Mumford and Sons had a blood clot in his brain and had emergency surgery last week so they had to cancel their show. BUT Jack Johnson was already at Bonnaroo to play a song with ALO, so they called and asked him to fill in for Mumford. It was awesome and he even covered one of Mumford's songs as a tribute to them.

/three/ Tom Petty rocked face and closed out the last night.

/four/ Seeing R. Kelly was pretty cool but i love how many girls I saw had the phrase "pee on me" written on themselves at the show. Too funny!

Tailgate Drinking Games (Guest Post!)

Hi Girlfriend Jill readers! I'm Sarah from Venus Trapped in Mars!
Spoiler Alert! Yes, I am a Vol Fan!
In honor of the beginning of college football creeping up on the horizon (aka Christmas in September) I want to give a tribute to the best tailgate drinking games!

I wonder who started the first drinking game? I guess someone who was at a tailgate casually drinking a beer, munching on delicious tasty treats and socializing with wonderful friends had a lightbulb appear over their head, ding ding ding, you know what would make this party so much better? Tossing a bean bag into a hole from several feet away repeatedly. AHHH yes! Perfect, just what this party needs. And then, a real man's tailgate was born!
--Cornhole--
History: Created back in 750BC cavemen tossed rocks at holes in the ground, whoever hit a hole without bouncing it in, had to chug the last of the Jack Daniels bottle.

Rules: Set up cornhole boxes about 25ft apart from front to front. Split up in teams of 2. Your teammate is opposite from where you are standing, on opposite sides. Eight bean bags start on one side. Toss a coin to decide who goes first. You alternate throws between the teams until all bags are thrown.
The foul line is made by the front of the boxes so you have to make sure to throw behind that foul line or you will forfeit that turn. Any bag the touches the ground before it touches the box is ruled out.
How to score: 1 point for landing on the box, 3 points for a bag in the hole. The team with the most points wins the round, then you must subtract the other teams points from yours. The first team to 21 wins.

Ancient cavemen used to paint their rocks they threw with pretty, bright, happy colors, but, as society has evolved, we now use our favorite team's logo.
Have 32 people at your tailgate and about 9 hours till game time? Have a tournament!

--Beer Pong--
History: Back in 1786 at the 876th annual ping pong championships the Japanese team forgot their paddles and just remembered the ping pong balls. They were playing the Irish who were so hammered when they were packing for the games that they accidently packed red solo cups and beer instead of their equipment.

Well, since both teams already paid for their airfare and had planned to use the frequent flier miles they had acquired from the trip for a family getaway to the Hamptons, they just decided to play with the equipment they had instead of forfeiting. And voila, a drinking game is born!

How it is played: Well, depends where you go. No matter how ridiculous the rules are, whoever lives in the house you are playing in, or owns the tent you are playing under, makes the rules.
As general overview, line up either 6 or 10 cups or even more in a triangle. Divide up into teams of two. Pour beer in the cups and shoot your ping pong ball by hand across the table and try and make it land in the cup. If you land the ball in one of the cups, the other team drinks! Whichever team hits all cups first, wins.

Why I think it is the best drinking game in the history of drinking games: You get to shoot a ping pong ball into a cup of beer and make someone else drink. Simple, to the point, requires minor skill and you get to drink beer!

Now I don't generally like to brag, but, I'm AWESOME at it! I mean, I'm kind of a big deal, as in the best player in the history of beer pong. No kidding, I'm THE best there is, I have a plaque with my name on it. There, now you can say at your next party you learned how to play from your friend Venus who is the best beer pong player in the world.

Flip Cup

History of Flip Cup: This just started last Wednesday but it has spread like wildfire and it now a world-wild phenom! It was started by USC coach Lane Kiffin. When he realized that this season would be his last because he is the worst coach ever, so he figured he needed something else to fill his time. When he sat down to create the game, he thought, how can I continue to disappoint fans across the country? LIGHTBULB! He decided to continue his fame of mediocrity by developing a mediocre drinking game.

BTW--- Lane Kiffin is a d-bag.

Point of the game: You have a team of however many players you want. You compete against a team of however many players they want. You drink the beer in the cup, then flip the cup from right side up to upside down. Whoever does this fastest, wins.

This game is painfully simple, but I guess it had to be for Lane to understand the rules.

Side-Note: As this blog post went to press, flip-cup was banned at USC for flip-cup team member recruiting violations.

Happy gaming kids! Now comes see me over at Venus Trapped in Mars!

Before we get to the link-up I want to share some photos of Girlfriend Jill and myself from way back when...
Oh my!

We rocked some duck faces! Don't ya'll love that pink lipstick I got goin on?!

Now back to the link-up

Venus Trapped in Mars

I'm a proud alumna of the University of Tennessee so I thought for this Fan Friday I would tell you all about the time we didn't make it to the game.

It was the first home game of the 2010 season, UT vs. Oregon who's mascot is ducks which is ironic but I'll get to that. My friends and I decided to of course pregame at a bar close to the stadium. Well right before we were about to make our way to the stadium it came a torrential downpour hence the irony in Oregon Ducks. So we just decided to stay at the bar where it was dry and the game was playing on a great big screen.

Well, pregaming led to a full game with very few time outs for me. I was what they like to call schmammered.

The bar we were at always has live music after the game. Which was great for me because alcohol makes me into a dancing fool. And that is why I decided that the entire bar needed to see my moves and the best place to accomplish this was right on stage with the band.

There ya have it

Music Festival Essentials

Hey there, Girlfriend Jill fans! Beth here, from Hang On, Honey.

While our dear friend Jill is off galavanting about Bonnaroo 2013 (jealous), I'm filling in for the day.

Live music is quite literally one of my most favorite things. I mean, there are few things better than the excitement of that moment when your favorite band walks on stage. Am I right? Jill would agree, me thinks.

I'm a big, huge, gigantic fan the Austin City Limits Festival. (Austinite, right here!) After getting more than just a few festivals under my belt, I've learned that you gotta be prepared with a few essentials while festival-ing!

1. Some method of sneaking in a little lotta bit of your favorite "adult beverage."
We're big fans of the hidden flask(s), but the interwebs have come up with a whooooole new world of bootlegging. I may or may not have to invest in a "WineRack" for my next festival... stick a wine bladder in your bra and make your ladies look bigger? Wine, wine, in my opinion. (See what I did there?)

2. A portable phone charger
This is essentiall. You'll probably be SOL in the phone reception department anyway, but if you want to avoid the sheer panic that comes with that "10% of battery life left" notification, then you should probably be prepared. Also, you need your phone to snap pictures of that impromptu drum circle.

3. A decent camera so you don't have to celeb stalk with your iPhone camera
This one is pretty self-explanatory. You might think you won't need it, but you'll feel like a real idiot when Ryan Gosling walks across the stage that you managed to get a front row spot at, and all you've got is your awful, miserable phone zoom. Also, the other 6 pictures I got of him are a total blur (but I will never, ever delete them).

Yeah, I was thisclose to Ryan Gosling, suckers.
4. Accessories to weather the weather
I've been to enough festivals to know that you should never trust the weather forecast. The news says it will be 100 degrees and sunny? Nah, there will be a freak rainstorm that creates a giant mud pit in the middle of the festival. The news says it's gonna rain the first two days? Nope. It'll be so dry that a dust storm kicks up and you'll have dust and sweat streaks down your face by the end of the day. Some of your most imperative supplies? Tiny foldable ponchos and bandanas or scarves to be able to breathe in the dust.

If it's not too hot, bring a scarf in case of dust. Nothing like looking like a bandit at a
music festival to make you feel like a total badass.
Sometimes the skies open for about 2 minutes and soak the entire festival. Mud pits are likely to result. (Can you tell by our water stains that it was raining sideways?)
5. Toilet paper
Ladies, Music Festival 101. You will be peeing in a port-o-potty for 3 days, they will be gross, and they will run out of TP in about 3 hours. On the first day. Be prepared for the worst, my friends.

6. A cross body bag to hold are of your beers festival essentials
I once saw a girl at ACL with a should bag, and I nearly wept for her. This girl here needs something that won't fall off when she's dancing her ass off to Santigold, and size does matter. Yes, I have a cute little Kate Spade cross body that is far more fashionable, but it can't fit four beers in it. Case closed.

 7. Actual essentials that aren't nearly as fun to blog about like water, sunscreen, cash, sunglasses, comfy clothes. Use your noggins, kiddos.

Happy festival-going, my friends! (Especially you, Jilly-kins!)

LEAVING FOR BONNAROO

Hi friends!

I am literally jumping with joy because tomorrow I leave for BONNAROO! Eek!

If you never been to a music festival, Bonnaroo it definitely one to check out.

Four nights roughing it in a tent in 85 degree weather, with 100,000 hippies, and over 100 bands.

SO MUCH FUN!

For those of you who have never been I will tell you what it's all about.

Bonnaroo takes place on a 700 acre farm in Manchester, Tennessee. There are multiple live stages and tents and music plays from about noon to 4:00am, Thursday - Sunday.

As you can see above, there is A LOT of camping. I would hate to be the people stuck in the very back.
To actually get in to the stages you have to go into "Centeroo"  the central area of Bonnaroo, which is accessed by two main gates. Once in Centeroo you can find all vendors, stages, music tents and even the silent disco!

I'm sure you are noticing some confusing stage names...

What stage, Which stage, This Tent, That Tent, The Other Tent ( All real stage/tent names).

I mean what was the person on when he came up with these names?

Still they're pretty amusing when running into new Roo goers trying to figure their way around

What Stage or the main stage.

.

You bet your ass that I will have plenty more pictures and stories to tell when I get back.

Until then some of my favorite bloggy friends will be guest posting for me while I'm away.
Hopefully I make it back in one piece.

Happy Hump Day!
