"God hates bad tippers".... but really.

Most of you know that I am a server at a steak house here in Knoxville. For those of you who don't, you do now. I've worked at the same restaurant for a little over eight years. (I started when I was sixteen and have continued to work through college for extra cash) With that being said, I have encountered my fair share of rude people over the years.  You can tell a lot about a person by how they treat someone that is serving them.

I have had people cry, cuss, and yell at me. I have had people that pretend that I don't exist. I have had people that automatically when coming into any restaurant, complain about any and everything.

Now most of the people I encounter are polite and pleasant but there are a few odd balls.

Below if a list I have complied of people that I hate to see in restaurants:

one. People who do not tip correctly. 20% is considered appropriate and customary for good service. If you leave anything under 15% I will seriously think about spitting in your food next time... Not really because unlike you I have class, but I will just envision it all the same and laugh evil-y to myself. Most servers make $2.13/hour. Since the majority of their money is made from cash that they take home every night, taxes are taken out of their paychecks. Since only making $2.13/hour, most of the time they receive a $0 paycheck, therefore relying on their tips for sole income.

two. Camels. I get it. You're thirsty. But if after you have consumed eight or more sweet teas in a matter of minutes and you get mad because I start bringing them to you two at a time to save me from running from around like a crazy person. Suck it. The only drinks you should be downing that fast are beer of vodka martinis. Just sayin'

three. Rugrats. No it is not okay for your children to pilfer through the sugar caddies on the table. They are not there to be toys. It is also not okay for your children to take every piece of food put in front of them and throw it on the floor. If you find that "cute" you are a moron.

four. Rude People. Now when I address people that I'm unfamiliar with I use my please and thank you's, and my Sir's and Ma'am's. Hey I'm from the south. It's the thing to do.  It's how I was raised. It is not okay for your to snap your fingers at me. It is not okay to for you to bark orders at me. It is not okay for you to be anything other than polite in return.

five. Christians who leave something besides money as a tip. I'm sure most people in the south, or the Bible Belt really have seen this. Sweet little people who sit in your section and after they leave you realize that they have left no money but some pamphlet on their church or the lord in general. Now I get it you want to spread the word and that's okay. Leave it in my server book as something extra. Do not let that be the only thing you leave. I cannot go shopping on one of those little fake twenty dollar bills or even the "million dollar question" bill. I cannot tell you the amount of cross key chains, new testaments, and church pamphlets I have received over the years.  It's not cool and it's not very Christianly to do so either. I don't think you would like it if I left a Togo menu in your offering plate on Sunday.

  3. Haha a 9 cent tip? That is horrible! And you are so right about the tract thing! Makes me embarrassed for some of my fellow christians. Want to show the love of Christ, bless those people with a good tip!

  4. Bad tippers are the worst! I think everyone should either work in retail or restaurants to learn a thing or two!

  5. i was only a server for a little bit in college and also worked as a hostess. i was honestly treated much worse when i was a hostess. i had people freak out on me because i said their table would be a few minutes and i also had people snap their fingers at me too. it's crazy that people think that's ok to do! and the lack of tips... oh, yeah been there too!
