Wine and Cheese Party

For a little while now I have been wanting to get a group of friends together and have a wine and cheese party. Last week I finally planned it. I had each person bring one white and one red of their choice and also a block of cheese. I was in charge of pairing the desserts. Another person was in charge of the apps; meat tray, crab dip, etc. And someone else brought fruit. In total there were six of us... And twelve bottles of wine.
I remembered seeing an idea somewhere about these kind of parties involving black paper and metallic pens to write on it. Probably Pinterest if I had to guess. Anyways I bought some black poster board and Sharpie metallic pens and got to work. I labeled all of the cheese and wrote underneath what wine it was supposed to pair best with. The Chevre turned out to probably be my favorite. At the end we scored the cheese with a point system. Sort of like the wine points system. Each person scored the different cheeses from 6-1. Six being the highest. At the end we add all of the point up per cheese to see the winner. The chevre came in first with 26pts and the rosemary and olive oil asiago came in last with 5pts. For any one thinking about having a wine and cheese party I would recommend buying some pepper jelly (found with the fancy cheese in Krogers) Its delish.
For dessert I made a key lime pie, and I grilled peach halves and filled the middle with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream. Later in the night we had a huge bonfire in my back yard and I brought out smores to be eaten with red wine. All in all we had such an awesome time.
And yes, all twelve bottles were consumed that night.

Weekend Recap

Does today feel like Monday to anyone else? No? Okay just me then. It's probably because Mondays are my free days. And by free days, I mean run errands and day drink days. My weekend started off with hanging out with friends Friday night. It was actually an early Friday night for me, I was in bed by midnight. The week just wears me out so much sometimes that I am ready to crash by the time Friday rolls around.
Saturday G went camping with the boys and that means that I had the entire house to myself. Well, me and the Bentley and Dallas. I cleaned for a couple hours in the morning and then lounged around and watched the game later that afternoon. By game I mean THE game... The UT v GA game. I'll be the first to admit my Vols haven't exactly played very well the past couple of years but Saturday they brought their A-game. Although we lost in overtime I count it as a win in my book because of how well we played. If only our boys can get it together like that for the rest of the season. The fans were awesome as well. ESPN tweeted "Neyland is the loudest place on earth right now." I met a man the other day that went to the game and said it was the loudest game he's ever heard in that stadium in the last 10 years.
Sunday was pretty uneventful.
Monday G and I ran errands. We dropped of my Pandora bracelet to be cleaned. Anyone else have a problem with theirs turning all dingy looking? Helzberg also sent me an anniversary card with an offer for a free pair of pearl earrings to celebrate so we picked those up too. Who doesn't love free jewelry. Since we went to the mall and had time to kill we made the mistake of stopping by the Cheesecake Factory. Huge mistake. I got a dirty vodka martini with bleu cheese stuffed olives (yum) and a piece of pumpkin cheesecake and G got a white chocolate macadamia cheesecake.  Holy cheesecake batman.
Last night I had a few friends over and tried a couple of new dishes out. Everything was a big hit.

Fall Favorites.

Fall is definitely my favorite time of year. There's something awesome about the crisp, cool air and the ever changing leaves. Here are a few of my favorite things I look forward to each year.
one// Fall in the Smokey Mountains is absolutely beautiful. I'm so blessed to live near them. If you have never visited these mountains you must. Fall or Christmas is my favorite time to go. There is a lot of fun to be had in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. Heck the drive alone through these mountains is worth it. If visiting you must go for a day hike, the scenery is beautiful. More than likely you'll see some bears or other wild life when exploring.

a blurry picture of Gatlinburg in the Fall.
two// Scarves. I love scarves. Too much probably. I'm actually embarrassed to show y'all my collection, its a little bit ridiculous really. My winter white  or orange scarf is probably my favorite to wear. The white just goes with everything.
Not my scarves but looks like my wall.

three// Pumpkin anything. I love pumpkin reeses, pumpkin spice lattes, pumpkin pie.. I could go on all day.  Recently I have been making my coffee each morning with a splash of creamer and dash of pumpkin pie spice. Mhmm tastes almost like Starbucks' PSL...almost.
four// Bonfires and boots. So they don't fall in exactly the same category but at the same time they kinda do. Sorta.  I love to wear boots with thick warm socks to a fire.
Came across these boots while looking for a new pair online earlier.

My weekend.

Sorry I've been such an absentee bloggers lately, I've been having waaaaay too much fun and not enough time to sit down and write.
This weekend was a blast.
Saturday I got up early and prepped the food for the football party I was having at my house. I made a buffalo chicken dip, a 8-layer mexican dip, and my mom's chili and cornbread.  The buffalo chicken dip was a hit! I think the entire crockpot of it was finished before half time. Unfortunately I didn't get to snap any pics of my delicious spread because I was too busy shoving my face with food and alcohol. I have never made cornbread before and it turned out really yummy as well. Next time I must let it cook a couple of minutes longer though.
Yes we take our football seriously.
I acquired a banana tree about a week ago while G was out of town. Image his surprise to find this gorgeous 10ft. plant on our deck when he arrived home. I just happened to be driving past a nursery that I have never been to and decided to stop on a whim. All of their huge containers and mixed containers were half off. Score! So I picked out this big lovely guy, a big mixed container of dragon-winged begonias and of some other plants that I can't remember their names. I also got four orange mums and four white mums... Go Vols! Amazingly enough I was able to get all ten plants in G's Jeep.
Burt, my banana tree

When I wake up, I let the dogs out and sit on the porch with some coffee next to my huge banana tree that I've named Burt. Don't get me wrong, I'm not weird, I promise. I don't give all of my plants a name. Only Burt.  Because he is so very large, and well, I just couldn't help but not give him a name. So I greet him in the mornings and tell him "good morning" and I could swear my dogs look at with me judgement in their eyes but I choose to ignore it.
I also acquired something else new this past week. G's great aunt passed away several months ago and she left him a china hutch that was G's great-great-grandmother's from the late 1800's. Moving to our house was the third time it's been moved.. ever.  The claw feet and the bowed glass are pretty and in such good shape too. We also acquired some family china that's beautiful as well. I filled up the hutch with the china but on second thought G and I aren't really china people... yet. So I think that I am going to fill the hutch up with art and some cool small sculptures that I have for right now.

The Best of Fall TV.

So this past week I have been doing a happy dance because the weather has been so nice. Highs of 77 and lows of 50.
Perfect weather.
A couple of nights ago G and I put on our warm clothes and opened up a bottle of wine on the deck. It was such a chilly night but we didn't care. A bottle of red and some fleece pajamas is just what we needed.
It just feels like fall, y'all.
Now I won't bore you with my love of pumpkin everything or tell you about my extensive scarf collection (can you tell this is my favorite season?) but I will tell you all about my favorite shows that come out this season!
Sleepy Hollow- Premiered last night. I have to say it was pretty awesome. I mean it's one of those all or nothing shows. The premise is that Ichabod Crane wakes up 250 years later in present day Sleepy Hollow to help a local cop banish the four headless horsemen for good. Now if you can get past a headless person wielding a full arsenal of guns and ammo then you're good. That was the only hard part G and I had watching the show. We will definitely tune in next week to see the second episode.
NCIS- 9/24 This is one of my favorite shows. I could watch reruns on USA This season Ziva is leaving the show permanently. I'm pretty upset by this. I've waited for seasons for her and Tony to finally get together and it looks like its never going to happen.
Marvel's Agents of  S.H.I.E.L.D.9/24: I'm not exactly sure what this show is all about. I have a feeling it has something to with superheroes. I loved The Avengers  and all of his other movies, so I am pretty sure I will like this show. I think I am going to try to watch it without looking up any information about it.
Modern Family 9/25: This is one of mine and G's favorite shows. We sit on the couch and giggle though out the entire 30 minutes. Its a must watch. Also, their reruns are being showed on USA.
Revenge 9/29: I was obsessed with this show in the first season. The second season was so-so. The whole "initiative" was kind of dumb to me. With that being said, I'm still interested to see what this season holds.
Betrayal 9/29: I've been seeing so many commercials for this upcoming show. I think that I will definitely check it out.
Vampire Diaries 10/3: I got kind of behind with this series but I am currently making them up on Netflix. I love supernatural shit. What can I say, I'm a dork.
American Horror Story (Coven) 10/09:  I'm super excited about this upcoming show. I started the last season but never finished it. I love anything to do with witches and witchcraft when it comes to TV/Movies/Books. I can't wait to watch this show, especially so close to Halloween.
The Walking Dead 10/13: I'm obsessed with The Walking Dead. Like I have Walking Dead parties of anywhere from 10-20 people every Sunday during the fall. It is seriously one of the best shows on TV. I love me some Daryl.

Soakin' up some rays.

So it feels like it has been forever since I have blogged. In truth, it really has.
The past week I have been soaking up some rays in sunny Panama City, FL. I've lived on the beach and in the pool with a drink in my hand from 9am until the wee hours of the night every night.
G and I had a bumpy ride down to Florida. My Jeep blew a tire outside of Chattanooga. He changed it in about 15 minutes and we were back on the road. I have to admit, it was kind of sexy watching him change it.
We met a lot of my family down there and stayed at the same hotel, the Holiday Inn Sunspree. First of all our hotel rocked! They gave out free drink cards like candy. I think between G and I we acquired about 30 free drink cards during our five night stay. They showed a movie every night on the big screen outside by the pool. They also had fire dancers, magic shows, and karaoke. We had so. much. fun.
One of my favorite parts of the trip was renting scooters on the last day and driving them all over. I was pretty nervous at first but I got the hang of it pretty quick.
Here are some of the pictures from my trip.
